Norman UCC Speaker Series features Rev. Lori Walke
The Rev. Lori Allen Walke will be the featured speaker for the United Church of Norman-UCC’s 2017 Speaker and Workshop Series. The lecture event will be held at 7 p.m. on March 31st at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, Norman. The lecture is free and open to the public. This year’s central theme is “Resistance and the Church.” Rev. Walke’s lecture is titled “A Thirty-Something in the Pulpit.”
On Saturday, April 1st, from 9 a.m. to noon, Rev. Walke will lead a workshop named “Politicos in the Pews,” focusing on how churchgoers can respond to issues of the day as they create the church of the future.
The workshop will be held at the United Ministry Center, 1017 Elm Avenue, Norman. The cost is $20 and is limited to 50 attendees. Registration can be made online at https://www.facebook.com/United-Church-of-Norman-UCC-1304354769991995/.
Rev. Walke is known for addressing the church’s role on issues of social justice involving ethnicity, women, gay rights, and immigration status. Most recently she gave the opening invocation at the Women’s March at the Capitol.
Walke is Associate Minister of Mayflower Congregational UCC. She holds a Master of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary and a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
Each year since its beginning, the United Church of Norman-UCC has sponsored speaker events dealing with progressive theology, social justice and peace.
