RuPaul’s Drag Race performer and creator RuPaul told Access Hollywood yesterday that this devastating attack at Pulse nightclub on June 12 has shaken America to the core.

“A collective shift in our consciousness has to happen,” the drag queen superstar said. “That’s the solution.”

Two Drag Race competitors, Kenya Michaels and Roxxxy Andrews, were at Pulse the night of the mass shooting. They have both been reported safe. However, the cousin of Jade Sotomayor was claimed as a victim of this terrible attack: Edward Sotomayor Jr., who was only 34.

RuPaul continued, saying, “I do believe that love is the first step.”

The issue of the inability of gay men to give blood was a primary topic in the conversation, dubbed solemnly “one of the greatest ironies” by one of the hosts. Gun control and firearm access were also discussed.

“We as the American people have some real soul searching to do. And not just on this – across the board,” RuPaul finished.
