14 students charged with vandalizing Massachusetts school with anti-gay slurs

ARLINGTON, Mass. (AP) — Police say 14 boys at a Massachusetts high school broke into the school earlier this month, vandalized the interior and spray-painted a swastika and anti-gay slurs on the exterior.

Arlington Chief Frederick Ryan said in a statement Tuesday that officers responding to the school at about 6 a.m. May 2 found that fire extinguishers, vending machines, display cases and an emergency defibrillator had been damaged.

Police did not release the names or ages of the students believed responsible, and did not say what led to the suspects.

No criminal charges were announced but the vandalism remains under investigation. The students face discipline from the school.

The Arlington Human Rights Commission, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Arlington LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission are being consulted to "determine the best possible response" to the vandalism.
