Art Deco “Visions of Vargas” presented in Paseo

The "Visions of Vargas" is a locally produced collection of art presented at Twisted Root Gallery in the Paseo. Photo provided.

Paseo’s ‘Twisted Root Gallery’ will feature 12 original photographic works in the Visions of Vargas art show, January 25. Conceived by three local artists in the Paseo Arts District, the show includes black and white photography with hand colored tinting techniques from the art deco period.

Six local models posed in the Alberto Vargas pinup style for the works. The photos were carefully lighted to produce the most intimate images of the models in the Vargas style. The show will feature live music from local musicians, and includes a selection of catered food and beverages.

The first of the three artists involved is J. Chris Gann. A seasoned photographer for over 25 years, Gann has traveled the country mastering his photographic skills. This style works well in all facets of photographic needs.

Ashtyn Anderson is basically the backbone of this body of creative types! Her skills allowed her to be the line producer, choreographer and hand coloring designer. Her wonderful spirit has made this project something that anyone would appreciate and admire. Anderson has been a artist for over 25 years, and has superior design skills in all types of media. You will find her work at her gallery eARThouse.

The final character in this creative drama is Brian Dunaway. After graduating from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, his career has focused on commercial design. His portfolio includes designs in print, video and photography. Dunaway is the creative director for this project.

The art show and sale will be hosted at ‘Twisted Root Gallery’ at 3012 N. Walker Ave., in OKC’s Paseo District. The Twisted Root, a consignment gallery founded by Adam Shelton is in the heart of the district and has a wide range of art that appeals to everyone. The Visions of Vargas show will begin at 7 pm, Saturday, January 25. It will feature the artist with the models who will be available to sign purchases. The show features art for sale from $20.00 and up. Also featured will be the first Paseo Annual Calendar, available for sale.
