Judge Kay Floyd has defeated opponent Mike Dover in the Democratic primary run-off held Tuesday, August 28, 2012.  The unofficial count places Floyd at 62.95% with 904 votes to Dover’s 37.05% with 532 votes.  Floyd narrowly missed winning the primary held June 26, 2012 by 26 votes.  She will now face Republican challenger Aaron Kaspereit in the November 6th general election.

If elected Floyd will become the second openly gay person elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives.  Al McAffrey, the first openly gay person elected resigned from this seat when he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate following the resignation of former Sen. Andrew Rice.

This would also mark the first time in Oklahoma history that both the House and Senate had an openly gay representative at the same time.  Floyd is not expected to have much problem in the November general election due to the demographics of the heavily Democratic district.
