Progress continues, but know who you are voting for in 2012

Among the last 5 remaining presidential candidates, all candidates still show 75% support for LGBT issues -- and the top 3 equality candidates maintain 100% support -- even after gay advocate Fred Karger suspended his campaign following the last Republican presidential primary in Utah on June 26th. Karger did not endorse anyone else.

“As the field narrows, it’s clear that Democratic, Libertarian, Green, and independent support for LGBTIQ issues remains strong going into the convention season, despite the recent Republican Party state platforms opposing equality,” said Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) Projects Manager Ned Flaherty. “Journalists, candidates, and voters can continue tracking all these trends through election day at www.MarriageEquality.org/Election2012.”

“Support for LGBTQI rights continues at historically high levels, and MEUSA will continue to report this progress,” said Media Director Stuart Gaffney. “Unfortunately, some of the Republican state platforms are the polar opposite of embracing equality as part of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, that clearly is not changing the national forward movement in support of rights for LGBTIQ people.”

In 2012, progress continues -- improving state laws, federal marriage rights, immigration rights, and military spouse benefits -- via lawsuits, legislation, and ballots in 25 states: California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawai’i, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia (www.MarriageEquality.org/Current-Status-Map).
