After two days of loud demonstrations and public shouting matches between Christian group “Justice for All” (Trinity Baptist Church, Wichita, KS) and students, the OU community is still seeking answers from the University regarding these kinds of aggressive protests, which in this case, included epithets such as “homo,” “fag,” and “disease-spreading whore” being hurled at students on their way to class.

A public altercation on the South Oval campus at the University of Oklahoma (OU) stopped just short of violence Tuesday when members of “Justice for All,” an organization that grew out of the Wichita, KS and Miami, FL chapters of Trinity Baptist Church, took to the OU campus to spread their message.

The Gayly reached out to the University for comment. OU Spokesperson Catherine Bishop said she was not aware of the demonstration and wrote in an email Tuesday afternoon (November 3), “I trust anyone witnessing inappropriate behavior will contact the OUPD.”

Major Bruce Chan of OUPD shared that although officers responded to the scene, no reports were filed. Major Chan could not comment on OU’s policy regarding any rules or guidelines authorizing demonstrations on campus, referring questions to the OU Office of Public Affairs.

OU Vice President for the University Community Jabar Shumate, who oversees diversity and inclusion on campus, was unable to comment and we were referred back to the OU PR department.

OU student Kevin Logan was active in silencing the demonstrators late Tuesday afternoon through debate and logical discussion. Unable to answer the students, the demonstrators responded by leaving campus. In a Facebook post tonight, Logan wrote: "Together, we can ask some legally tough questions and show them that their antics and discrimination and hate-speech will no longer by tolerated in our community and on our campus."

It is unclear through our interviews if “Justice for All” had a permit to demonstrate.
