The gaming gurus at SUPER! BitCon have announced a gaming-themed Photo Scavenger Hunt to take place August 26, kicking off at Main Event on Memorial Road in Oklahoma City at noon.

The local organization ran the popular SUPER! BitCon gaming convention from 2014-2017.

The group recently changed direction to focus more on other events that will bring Oklahoma gamers together on a more frequent basis. The scavenger hunt is the first such event the team will organize.

“Our 2017 convention was impacted hard by the storm that swept through State Fair Park the last weekend of April,” said events director BC Phillips.

“We were only able to open for one of our two days and lost a lot of potential revenue because of it. The gaming community has been so supportive of us ever since.

“While the circumstance was certainly tragic, it afforded us the ability to pursue other directions to take the organization and our events.”

In addition to its yearly conventions, last year SUPER! BitCon organized the “Bricktown GO” flash mob that brought over 4,000 players of the popular game “Pokémon GO” to downtown Oklahoma City in a single evening.

Phillips says that these are the types of events the organization wants to facilitate going forward.

“It’s that proverbial ‘when life gives you lemons’ conundrum. While we won’t be able to hold an annual convention anymore, we aren’t letting that stop us from being a positive force in the Oklahoma gamer community,” said Phillips.

The scavenger hunt will involve a series of clues, each with assigned point values. Teams of 4-5 members will venture out into Oklahoma City to take their best photos inspired by the clues.

Bonus points will be awarded based on interpretation, but also when teams photograph at certain secret locations they must decipher. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams as well as a number of honorable mentions.

The scavenger hunt is free to the public and teams can register in the Main Event parking lot beginning at 11 a.m. Teams will be able to buy up to 25 bonus points by making an on-site donation of $1-per-point to local non-profit, Hotdogs for the Homeless.
