John Gibbons, Oklahoma City LGBT Community leader and owner of popular nightspot, “The Boom,” has launched a Facebook page titled, “John Gibbons for House District 88.”

The Facebook page reads:
“Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is John Gibbons and I would like to be your next State Representative in District 88 of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. As you may know, our current State Representative, Kay Floyd, has announced her candidacy for the State Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Al McAffrey. As a neighbor, business-owner, community-activist and fellow Democrat, I am running for the nomination of our party in the June 24 primary election.

If you entrust me as your member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, I will be your voice for positive social change and economic growth. I experienced what bad government policy can do to our economy when my mortgage and real estate business was devastated by the economic collapse of 2007. Every day I experience how unfair state regulation hampers my ability to grow my local dinner theater. Most recently, as the president of the 39th Street Business Association, I discovered just how much reasonable economic incentives can help small businesses grow, build and employ more people at fair wages.

A vibrant state economy is just the first step toward making Oklahoma a better place to live, learn and grow. We need to continue building a state and community that attracts the best companies and retains our best and brightest. Every indicator shows that younger generations in both parties are embracing progressive social policies, civil rights for all and investment in the arts. These issues that I have supported and fought for over the years are finally at the forefront in the Oklahoma Legislature but they need a strong advocate to speak up and fight for them—I am not afraid to do just that.

Please consider getting involved in my campaign to take the issues important to us to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. I need your help finding other supportive Democrats to work with us throughout District 88; to introduce me to your friends, neighbors and business-owners; to help fund our campaign activities; and most-importantly, I need your vote on June 24.

I will be coming to meet you personally very soon. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me, John Gibbons, at (405) 388-5253, with any questions or to help with my campaign for Oklahoma State House District 88."
