For the love of pets

In 2005 when Cris Carey decided to em“bark” upon her own pet sitting business she had no idea how big the business would become. What she did know is after working in a traditional office setting for 27 years, it was not a fit for her. So, Carey Pet & Home Care was born. As the company’s sole pet sitter, Cris often worked two part time jobs to make ends meet while nurturing her new endeavor. Now ten years later Carey Pet & Home Care is celebrating a decade as Oklahoma City’s premiere pet sitting and home care service.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating ten years,” said Cris Carey. “When I first started the business I was the only pet sitter. We now have a network of 19 carefully screened, bonded pet sitters, as well as two Pet Tech certified CPR and first aid instructors, and provide services to approximately 1,000 clients. With the ongoing expansion and development of the OKC metro area, we are growing at a rate of 30 to 40 percent each year resulting in us constantly looking to add new members to our team.

“And we love our LGBT clients – true pet lovers,” added Carey. “We have advertised with The Gayly for more than two years and we love serving our LGBT clients. They are great pet owners!"

Be sure to visit the Carey Pet & Home Care booth at OKC Pride this June.

Carey Pet & Home Care has a personalized menu of services that include dog walks, mid-day potty breaks, vacation pet and home care, overnight visits, pet transportation, and pet CPR and first aid classes. Carey is a great choice for all pet owners whether working a 12-hour day, going out of town on business, or escaping for a much-needed vacation.

What Carey loves most about running Carey Pet & Home Care is no two days are ever the same. On any given day Cris and her team of pet sitters are out transporting pets to dog daycare, providing a mid-day potty break, walking dogs, going to the dog park, or spending the night with pets while their owner’s are on vacation. Every day is different.

“Unlike a traditional office where individuals may or may not get kudos for their hard work, as pet sitters we get job appreciation every time we go into a house,” concludes Carey. “The pets are always happy to see us greeting us with their tails wagging or purring as they brush up against our legs. And an added bonus is we can roll out of bed in jeans and a T-shirt with bed head and no make up and the pets don’t care what we look like!”

In addition to pet sitting and home care, Carey Pet & Home Care has added Pet Tech CPR and First Aid training classes to its menu of services. The two Pet Tech certified instructors on staff are the only instructors in the OKC metro area and hold classes on a monthly basis. Customized classes can also be scheduled for large groups and corporations.
