The annual Pride parade and festival was held in Wichita, Kansas this weekend. This week’s events culminate the 2018 Pride celebrations, which included months of planning and fundraising.

“This year’s theme is meant to represent a call to unity within the community because even in 2018, we still have progress to make,” Travis Hooper, Wichita Pride president stated in the organization’s Pride guide. “That progress will only come while we stand together, arm in arm, and support each other.”

This year, the Grand Marshal is Sally Morse who has dedicated her life to making a difference in the lives of youth, in particular, LGBT youth.

When her son came out, Morse had to abandon her Mormon faith to support her son. She had initially thought she felt she chose her church over her son, but in 1992 she attended her first PFLAG meeting ((Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). From there, she went on to become a leader in PFLAG, both at the local and national level as well as supporting many other causes.

Hooper also said this has been the largest Wichita Pride ever with more vendors, more parade entries and more people in attendance than past years.
