In its twenty-first year, the AIDS Walk of Oklahoma City Board of Directors has announced the 2019 AIDS Walk OKC Theme of “Everyday People.”

“Anyone who has worked in this community for any length of time knows it is the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that began a revolution in LGBTQ history,” said Verna Meadows, board president, 2019 AIDS Walk OKC.

“To continue the work in reducing the stigma of HIV/AIDS as well as give a nod to the 1969 song  by Sly and the Family Stone, Everyday People is a statement about those living and thriving with HIV/AIDS as well as the fun song from that year.”

The 7th annual RED Rooftop will be May 30 at The Caliber at 48 NW 8th Street in Oklahoma City. The 21st annual OKC AIDS Walk will be September 29 at the OKC Farmers Market.

“Continuing with the Stonewall homage, the theme of RED Rooftop is Party Like It’s 1969,” Meadows added. “While at The Caliber, you will experience OKC’s most interesting residence, world museum and exotic luxury cars.”

Admission to the event will include a 60s costume contest, live DJ, open bar and food. There will also be a silent auction with many unique items. General admission for this evening will be $50. VIP Passes will be $100 and include a VIP bar, exclusive VIP food options, early admission at 6:30 p.m., special VIP parking and an extra 15 minutes to bid on silent auction items.

All proceeds will benefit AIDS Walk of OKC. Early event sponsors are Audi of Oklahoma City, Bob Moore Jaguar/Land Rover, Republic Liquor, JK Janitorial Services and Chris and Jennifer Salyer. Anyone with interest to sponsor or donate to the silent auction, please contact RED Rooftop chairman, Michael Clark.

With the recent news of new diagnosis being at a record high, the mission of AIDS Walk of Oklahoma City is to build awareness about HIV/AIDS and to raise funds to support the work of nonprofit organizations that provide HIV/AIDS direct care, support services and education. Today, it is just as important as ever.

“While many think HIV is no longer an issue, recent numbers indicate that our work is still important,” said Meadows. “We work very hard to make sure every available dime we raise goes to these great nonprofits.

“As an all-volunteer board, our expenses are at a minimum. We look forward to seeing everyone out at RED Rooftop as well as the Walk.”

Tickets to RED Rooftop can be purchased through the AIDS Walk of OKC Facebook page or click here for the Eventbrite  “7th Annual RED Rooftop.”
