Arkansas senator calls for anti-gay marriage resolution

Little Rock, Ark. (AP) — A state senator upset with the possibility of gay marriages in Arkansas has lodged a protest over a procedural move that kept his proposal against same-sex marriage from coming to a vote last month.

The Arkansas Legislative Council on Friday accepted a letter from Republican Sen. Jason Rapert of Conway. Rapert wanted the panel to consider a non-binding resolution asking the state Supreme Court to uphold the state's voter-approved gay marriage ban.

Rapert wants Judge Chris Piazza's ruling and the 500-plus same-sex marriages that took place afterward set aside. The high court blocked imposition of the ruling while it considers a state appeal.

Rapert is on the council's agenda Friday to make another run at a vote on his resolution. Rapert has also called for Piazza's impeachment.
