Dave Franco is back in character in Neighbors 2:Sorrority Rising, with only one minor change: his character, Pete, is gay.

In the sequel to the hit comedy, Pete will be in a relationship with a man and on the verge of getting married.

‘I was so excited,’ Franco told Yahoo News.

‘Even though I’m not on screen for a significant amount of time, hopefully it will be very memorable. And of course I was excited to try something new with the character while still maintaining his essence.’

In the first movie, there were a few signs that Pete’s character had some form of attraction toward his fraternity brother, Teddy (Zac Efron).

“Clearly, we’re playing with the homoerotic tension there, and I was like, ‘He should just be gay,’” director Nicholas Stoller says.

Neighbors 2: Sorrority Rising reunites Efron and Franco with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne who play a young married couple who are trying to shut down the sorority next door because they are trying to put their house up for sale.

The film will be in theaters on May 13.
