The Four Seasons of Kansas
In a musical and visual mash-up presented by the Wichita Symphony (WSO), Vivaldi’s popular Four Seasons meets the photographic landscapes of acclaimed Kansas artist and Wichita State University (WSU) Professor Larry Schwarm.
Schwarm, who has deep roots in Kansas, has been producing photographic art for more than 40 years. He teaches photography at WSU. The award-winning photographer is best known for his dramatic images of the Kansas landscape and heart-wrenching scenes of tornado destruction in his hometown of Greensburg, Kansas.
This WSO production of Four Seasons of Kansas includes a photographic montage of Schwarm’s work projected above the orchestra. It brings life to Vivaldi’s masterpiece as performed by the incomparable violinist Rachel Barton Pine.
Celebrated as a leading interpreter of great classical and contemporary works, Rachel Barton Pine’s performances combine her innate gift for emotional communication and her scholarly fascination with historical research. She plays with passion and conviction across an extensive repertoire, thrilling audiences with her dazzling technique, lustrous tone, and infectious joy in music making.

Together with Handel’s Water Music and Bach’s sumptuous Third Orchestral Suite that includes the famous Air on a G String, this concert is a rare visit by the WSO to the glorious period of Baroque music. You won’t want to miss it.
