Factors Related to the Health and Well-being of Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender and/or Queer Adults Aged 50 and Older

If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer and are age 50 or over, we invite you to participate in a study about factors related to the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer adults aged 50 and older. We also hope you will pass this invitation on to others.

We are a research team from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and some of us have been working for a number of years to advocate for and learn more about things that contribute to the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer adults aged 50 or over (LGBTQ+).

This study is part of that broader research and has two specific purposes: 1) to learn more about whether the measures in this study, which have been used with younger adults who identify as LGBT+, are also valid for individuals aged 50 or older; and 2) to look at the relationship between these measures and a measure of health and well-being.

You are eligible for this study if you are aged 50 and over and identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer. If you are interested in learning more about this study, please click here. On the web link, we provide more information about the study, and direct you to where you can give your consent and complete the survey measures. Alternately, you may contact Dr. Sue C. Jacobs (sue.c.jacobs@okstate.edu or 405-744-9895) for more information about the study and/or to have one of the researchers below assist you in answering the research questions by entering them into a computer. Any answers or personal information you provide will be anonymous as you will not provide your name. If you have questions about your rights as a research volunteer, you may contact the IRB Office at 223 Scott Hall, Stillwater, OK 74078, 405-744-3377 or irb@okstate.edu.
We hope you are able to be part of this research. What we learn will be reported as group data only and made available to service agencies, health and mental health providers, equality centers, professional journals, meetings, or others who request it. Your participation is voluntary and you will receive no compensation except to know you are contributing to knowledge about an important matter.
