It’s Bisexual Awareness Week

We celebrate Bisexual Awareness Week annually, and this year it is September 16 to September 23. This week is about not just bisexuality but also several other sexual orientations under the bi-umbrella.

The bisexual umbrella encompasses a lot of different sexual orientations that are similar or have some similarities to bisexuality.

I’ll start with bisexuality, which is defined as being attracted to two or more genders. Bi individuals can also be attracted to all genders.

Another sexuality is similar in definition but not the same: Polysexual. Polysexuality is where you are attracted to multiple genders.

You may be thinking to yourself, “that sounds like they are the same.” Which is not accurate; they are similar in definition but not the same.

People under the bi-umbrella understand that one’s sexual identity is up to them, not anyone else. So, people’s definitions of a sexuality are going to vary from person to person.

Moving on to Pansexuality. Pansexual individuals are attracted to people of all genders. The attraction can be physical, romantic or emotional.

Another sexuality is very similar to this one, and people can get the definitions of them mixed up. Which is Omnisexuality.

Omnisexuality is where a person is attracted to all genders as well; however, they more often have a preference for certain genders than others.

All these sexual orientations can like all genders, but in different ways.
