LGBT+ comedian discusses her show's new season

If you aren't familiar with Tig Notaro, she's a modern day comedian with quite a big following.
This past week, her show, One Mississippi, premiered its newest season. With its release, Notaro has been able to reflect on her experiences as a lesbian. This is so as the show is mostly about Notaro's life.
“The first season, it was really important for me to show that I could be gay and from Mississippi and it not be a big deal,” Notaro said in an interview with the Daily Beast. “That’s how my real life is. I got married in my hometown. Everyone knows us there."
However, as the political climate in the U.S. has changed this year, Notaro wants fans to know that the new season will reflect those changes and subsequent feelings.
"It felt very irresponsible to not explore the other sides of the South or Mississippi or the country,” Notaro continued. “And it’s not just in the South, it is everywhere. But since we are in Mississippi, I wanted to go into that. And I felt like we would look foolish—we have Mississippi in the title of the show—if I just pretended like, yeah, everything’s cool in Mississippi, what are you talking about?”
While the show is filmed in Louisiana, Notaro often visits her home in Mississippi. During visits, Notaro has reported feeling increasingly squeamish about potentially facing discrimination.
This is a reasonable fear considering "this past June, a federal appeals court upheld a Mississippi law that allows businesses to deny almost any service to same-sex couples."
You can read further about the law here.
Nevertheless, the new season also showcases a budding romance between Notaro and Stephanie Allynne (Notaro's wife in real life). This part of the storyline certainly provides a nice contrast to the otherwise contentious feelings.
