Staff report

(Oklahoma City) Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will present a special ‘Pride Night’ performance of Tennessee Williams’ play The Glass Menagerie on April 10. The play is Williams’ autobiographical masterpiece, a moving ‘memory play’ that is equal parts touching and tragic, as you see one family’s struggle through life and love. The Glass Menagerie was William’s first successful play; he went on to become one of America’s most highly regarded playwrights. Lyric offers ‘Pride Night’ to recognize that he was gay.

The play features a four member cast of performers. Helen Hedman as Amanda Wingfield; Lindsay Pittman as Laura Wingfield; Dallas Lish as Jim; and Alex Enterline as Tom Wingfield, the Tennessee Williams character, and narrator of the play.

The special performance at Lyric’s Plaza is at 7:30pm. It will be hosted by Artistic Director Michael Baron. For just $35, attendees will receive a ticket to the show and a complimentary glass of wine.

“Lyric’s 50th Anniversary has begun and we have a full year of special events, like Pride Night, lined up,” said Baron. “Fifty years ago a group of forward-thinking civic leaders decided Oklahoma deserved its own professional theatre and now Lyric is bigger and better than ever. In fact, Lyric has been so successful that its reputation extends throughout Oklahoma, nationally, on Broadway and even internationally.”

Lyric boasts a year-round season of eight shows—four at the Civic Center Music Hall and four at its own Plaza Theatre on 16th Street in Oklahoma City—making it the only year-round professional theatre company in the state. In addition to The Glass Menagerie, their 50th Anniversary Season of shows includes: Tarzan, The King and I, The Will Rogers Follies, Big River, theRocky Horror Show, and Lyric’sA Christmas Carol.
