The NBA released a statement Thursday evening saying they feel “deeply concerned” about HB 2, the North Carolina anti-LGBT discriminatory law passed this week. They are threatening to relocate the All-Star Game in Charlotte next season.

They released a statement saying the law “runs counter to our guiding principles of equality and mutual respect, and [we] do not yet know what impact [HB 2] will have on our ability to successfully host the 2017 All-Star Game in Charlotte.

This is part of a growing trend of big-name companies threatening to ‘take their business elsewhere’ in states where discriminatory bills have been proposed. Just this week, Disney and Marvel threatened to take their filming of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 out of Georgia.

The Washington Post says there is only one right decision for the NBA. “Take the All-Star Game from Charlotte and hold it somewhere that isn’t establishing laws that discriminate against whole portions of the community.”

LGBTQ sports fans and players are already making calls in agreement.
