New events for Eureka Springs Summer Diversity Weekend
The 2015 Eureka Springs Diversity Weekend has two new special events happening on Saturday, August 8 presented by Eureka Springs Partners in Diversity, and two special events presented by Fresh Bistro.
On Saturday, August 8th, at Basin Spring Park from 11am to 2:30pm, Eureka Springs Partners in Diversity will present “Diversity in the Park” to celebrate equality. The public is invited to join the celebration and visit booths set up by the following organizations:

On Saturday, August 8 from 4pm to 6pm, Main Stage Creative Community Center located at 67 N. Main, will present a special screening of Sacred Hearts, Holy Souls a film by Arkansas filmmaker Mark Thiedeman. Following the screening of the 40-minute film, Mark will be interviewed by Christopher Crane, the Arkansas Film Commissioner. This screening is the introduction for the Eureka Springs Human Rights Art & Film Festival. The new film festival, focusing on all human rights issues, is a project of the Eureka Springs Indie FilmFest, the Eureka Springs Arts Council, and ArFilms/Arkansas Production Alliance.
Sacred Hearts, Holy Souls won Best Film/Made in Arkansas at this year’s Little Rock Film Festival. “Mark Tiedemann’s beautiful coming-of-age story (Sacred Hearts, Holy Souls) is one of the year’s best,” proclaimed Philip Martin of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. The Arkansas Times said, “Theideman is probably the most promising representative of our local film industry.”
Mark Theideman (Gray Area Films) is a writer, director, filmmaker and photographer currently working in Little Rock, Arkansas. He studied film and television production at New York University and remained in New York City for eleven years, producing a series of short films and the feature film The Scoundrel.
Eager to address themes of life in the American South, he relocated to Little Rock in 2010, and has directed a number of new films, including Last Summer (Netflix), A Christian Boy (NewFest, Little Rock Film Festival Best Director Nominee) and Cain and Abel (nominated for Best Film, Best Director, and the winner of the Best Performance Award for Samuel Pettit at LRFF 2012 / Made in Arkansas). Thiedeman’s current projects include producing the feature length version of Sacred Hearts, Holy Souls, and producing a new feature length, White Knights.
The Diversity Disco will be a uniquely “fresh” party on the deck at Fresh Bistro at 179 North Main on Saturday, August 8 offering disco cocktails and tapas from 6pm until 10pm. The event will be held on the large deck and will be tented. The vibe will be mellow, disco, lounge for either a quick drop in or a quick snack before heading out for the night.
Sunday, August 9 from 11am-3pm, don’t miss the first annual 70's and 80's Disco Classics brunch tea dance at Fresh Bistro. Disco spinners Julio, Caroline and Ken will serve up the hits while you enjoy a fab brunch and libations like Disco Ball Punch and special Bloody Mary’s. You’ll be entertained, and maybe even served by, drag queens, and have a chance to win cash and merchandise prized during the “Name That Disco” contest.
