John McCain is standing up for the trans community

Despite connotations that go along with members of certain political parties, John McCain has decided to join the battle against Trump in protecting trans military members.

McCain, due to his statuses as a veteran and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, certainly has clout to back up his stance.

Before the weekend, he announced that he had signed a bipartisan bill that would stop the ban from occurring. Joining McCain in signing this bill are two Democrats in the Senate Armed Services Committee and a moderate Republican senator, Susan Collins.

“Any member of the military who meets the medical and readiness standards should be allowed to serve—including those who are transgender,” said McCain in a statement with the Washington Post.

While trans military members have not been forced to leave the military yet, the possibility still looms as February 1st comes around. Hopefully, the bipartisan bill McCain has helped enact will put a stop to the ban.
