Trust Women denounces extreme anti-family measure

(Wichita, KS) – On Wednesday, Kansas state Sen. Garrett Love (R-38) formally introduced legislation, SB 95, which would leave hundreds of women in Kansas without access to needed health care.
The procedure would ban the most common procedure used for second trimester abortions, and is another step in efforts in Kansas and Oklahoma to incrementally ban abortions.
Julie Burkhart, CEO of Wichita’s Trust Women and South Wind Women’s Center, stated, “This extreme measure is nothing more than government intrusion into the private lives of women and their families. Kansas women deserve more from lawmakers than constant meddling in their personal healthcare decisions. This bill is part of an extreme anti-choice agenda to incrementally ban abortion in Kansas. Bills like this one are part of an increasing wave of government intrusion and restriction into women’s private medical decisions.”
A nearly identical bill (HB 1721) has been in Oklahoma by state Rep. Pam Peterson (R- 67/Tulsa) and state Senator Josh Brecheen (R-6/Coal Cty).
Burkhart went on to state, “If lawmakers were truly interested in strengthening the families of Kansas, they would vote to ensure that insurance coverage is available for a broad array of services, so that women could more easily seek medical care; they would ensure that women have access to qualified childcare; and they would work to ensure that women are paid a living wage so that they can provide for their families. The proposed abortion ban is nothing more than an attempt to outlaw all abortion care, which does not help families live healthier lives.”
Trust Women opens clinics that provide full-spectrum reproductive healthcare, including abortion services, in underserved communities so that all women can make their own decisions about their health care. Trust Women works to expand access in the Midwest and the South.
