Bill would update laws to reflect same-sex marriage rights

Juneau, Alaska (AP) — State laws would be updated to replace terms like husband and wife with language reflecting the legalization of same-sex marriage under legislation introduced in the Alaska House.
In a release, Democratic Rep. Andy Josephson said the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage is not reflected in state laws. He says there's a housekeeping nature to proposed changes in the bill. But he says the changes would have a significant effect in recognizing the rights of same-sex couples in the state.
The bill, HB 342, touches on a range of areas including adoption, divorce and property rights.
