 – OKC Pride will host its first fund-raising event of 2014 on January 18th at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma (IAO) Gallery, 706 W. Sheridan, in Oklahoma City. The theme of the Second-Chance prom event is “Bring Who You REALLY Want!”

“OKC Pride is so proud to partner with IAO for this, our first fund-raiser of the year,” said Kindt Myers, president of OKC Pride. “This promises to be a night of fun and maybe even a little nostalgia.”

Myers said that while it’s true things are getting better, there are still too many high school juniors and seniors who aren’t comfortable with bringing a same-sex partner on prom night.  “So whether you were one of those kids who didn’t get to take the one you love to the prom or you simply want to support your local LGBT community, we invite everyone to come join the party.”

The festivities will begin with a pre-party at Alibi’s (1200 N. Pennsylvania Ave.) at 8 p.m. and will progress to IAO shortly thereafter, with an after-party at Grandad’s (317 NW 23rd St.). The 21-and-up event is being held to raise funds for OKC Pride, the entity responsible for organizing, promoting and producing the annual OKC Pride Parade and its accompanying weekend of events.

“In order for next year’s Pride events to be the very best they can be, we have some very real financial goals to meet,” Myers said. “Entertainment isn’t cheap and that’s why fund-raising efforts like these are so important to next year’s success.”

Prom tickets are $25 per person and $45 per couple, and can be purchased at ticketstorm.com, from any OKC Pride board member or at the door. Hors d'oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages are included in the ticket price. Alcoholic beverages will be available at on-site cash bars, and a DJ will provide entertainment throughout the night. Further, every guest will receive a free prom photo, with the option to purchase additional photo packages.

The purpose of OKC Pride is to promote and celebrate pride, diversity, equality and community (primarily related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression) in central Oklahoma. The mission of the organization is to provide leadership to meet the needs of the LGBT community through awareness, health and educational services.

OKC Pride Inc. is a 501 (c)3 non-profit, funded by community donations, membership dues and business sponsorship.
