Oklahoma City citizens passed three propositions for Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) that were on their November 9th ballots. The propositions would allow the spending of $180-million dollars for OKCPS for transportation, technology and infrastructure.

In a statement, Superintendent Aurora Lora of the OKCPS said “Voter approval of the $180-million Oklahoma City Public Schools bond ensures that our students and teachers will be able to work in comfort, feel safer, and have educational essentials needed for learning. Our community’s partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools is a key component to our success, and our strategic plan, The Great Commitment".

Voters have cleared the way for $106-million for necessary maintenance items including heating and air-conditioning, plumbing, electrical repairs, safety entrances, roof repairs, and playground equipment.

"We were forced to make deep cuts in fine arts and athletics due to severe budget issues, but now we can address those needs," said Aurora.

Just over $54-million will upgrade technology needs allowing replacement of antiquated systems giving students and teachers the network they need with better Wi-Fi connectivity, new computers and iPads. Technology is such an important piece for students, and their learning.

$19-million will be used for transportation needs; specifically to replace an aging bus fleet so that students can be transported safely around the district and to school sanctioned events.

The Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce endorsed the bonds and were behind the “Yes the Yellow” campaign.

In closing, Aurora said, "Finally, we are thankful to our community for supporting the bond; putting students first and making sure they have the best possible educational experience at OKCPS.”
