Carpenter Square Theatre (CST) continues its Season 42 with the sharp and witty comedy-drama Looped by Matthew Lombardo. All performances take place on the Inasmuch Foundation Stage at Carpenter Square Theatre, west of downtown Oklahoma City at 1009 W. Reno.

Set in 1965, Looped takes place during a recording session for what would become the final film of legendary stage and screen actress Tallulah Bankhead. Called in to re-record a single line of dialogue, Bankhead arrives at the studio unprepared, launching a marathon session that tests the patience of everyone in the room.

As the hours stretch on, her sharp wit and larger-than-life personality collide with the mounting frustration of the film’s editor and producer. What begins as a simple task becomes an exhausting and revealing standoff, exposing the complexities of Bankhead’s career, her struggles with addiction, and her refusal to fade quietly from the spotlight. Lombardo’s script blends biting humor with poignant moments, offering a compelling portrait of a star at the end of an era. This production contains very strong language throughout and is intended for mature audiences.

Spencer Hankins directs a cast of metro-area performers led by Elin Bhaird, Brett Young, and Chantry Sipress-Banks, who bring this intimate three-character story to life. The production highlights the performers’ precision and timing as they navigate rapid emotional shifts and sharp, character-driven dialogue. Shelly Harmon is this production’s stage manager. Set design is by Ben Hall, costume design by Elin Bhaird, sound design by Rick Allen Lippert, and lighting design is by Isaiah Williams.
