Oklahoma City Ballet to hold children’s auditions for “The Nutcracker”

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – July 26, 2014 – Children enrolled at the Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet are invited to audition for a chance to dance in Robert Mills’ The Nutcracker at the Civic Center Music Hall with brand new, never before seen sets and costumes sponsored by Devon Energy. Auditions will be held Saturday, August 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at OKC Ballet studios (7421 N. Classen Blvd.). Auditions are open to dancers who have one year of previous ballet training who are ages 8 and up as of August 23, 2015. Dancers must be currently enrolled in The Dance Center of OKC Ballet for the 2014-2015 school year. For enrollment information please visit okcballet.com/school/enrollment.

Auditions for The Nutcracker will be held for children ages 8-10 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., ages 11-13 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and ages 14 and up from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dancers are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled audition time for registration. Older dancers are asked to arrive warmed up and ready to dance.

Parents will be notified if their child has been selected via email, on or before August 30. If selected, you will receive information including the role, rehearsal schedule and which cast you will be in, A or B. All parents (or legal guardians) of children cast in the production will be required to attend a meeting at the OKC Ballet studios on Tuesday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. At this meeting, parents (or legal guardians) will sign a contractual agreement outlining rules and expectations regarding the child’s participation in The Nutcracker.

Performances of The Nutcracker will be held at the Civic Center Music Hall (201 N. Walker Ave.) on Saturday, December 13 at 2pm and 7pm, Sunday, December 14 at 2pm and 7pm., Friday, December 19 at 7pm, Saturday, December 20 at 2pm and 7pm, Sunday, December 21 at 2pm and 7pm, and Monday, December 22 at 7pm.

Rehearsals will be held at OKC Ballet’s studios on Saturdays between 9am and 3:30pm from September 6 through December 6. Evening rehearsals at the Civic Center Music Hall will be held Tuesday, December 9 through Friday, December 12, and Tuesday, December 16 through Thursday, December 18 from 7pm to 10pm. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided once selected. Each child participating will receive one free ticket to a performance of your choosing.

About The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet: Since 1963, The Dance Center of Oklahoma City Ballet has placed students in scholarship programs with many prestigious companies.
