More than one-hundred cats and kittens will be competing for prizes at the annual Oklahoma City Cat Club show April 2nd at the Biltmore Hotel. Forty-one breeds are accepted for showing so, "In addition to seeing the most popular breeds like Exotics, Persians and Maine Coon Cats, you may also get to see Norwegian Forest Cats, Tonkinese or Japanese Bobtails," said Oklahoma City Cat Club president Lena Voerster.

The entrants will be judged in six separate rings. Each judge inspects the cats and determines which felines best adhere to breed standards of conformation. Each judge picks his or her top ten best cats in show. "It's like six shows in one," explained Voerster. Household pets also have their own class, where they are judged on health and beauty.

All day long spectators will get to vote on their favorite cat in the show. A special "People's Choice" rosette will be awarded to the winner at 4pm.

In addition to watching the judging and speaking with breeders about their cats, spectators can visit vendor booths with pet related items, visit the raffle table or meet with the cat rescue group PAWS OK.

The Oklahoma City Cat Club has been having shows since it was started in 1967 by Willa Hawke. She has been a Cat Fanciers Association judge for the past 50 years. "Willa will be judging our show this year one last time. She's retiring from judging this year," Voerster added.

Cat show hours are from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, April 2nd at the Biltmore Hotel which is located just off I-40 at 401 S. Meridian Ave., in Oklahoma City. Adults will be charged $4.00 to enjoy the show. Seniors (65 and over) and children from 5 to 12 will be charged $3.00.  Children under five may see the show free of charge.
