OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Inspired by the special exhibition "Our City, Our Collection: Building the Museum's Lasting Legacy," SONIC Free Family Day on April 10 will feature local performers and hands-on activities inspired by Oklahoma City. SONIC Free Family Day is a bi-annual event with art activities and live performances taking place from noon to 5 p.m. Free admission and all activities for the day are made possible by SONIC, America's Drive-In.

"We're looking forward to showcasing the Museum's permanent collection on Family Day," said Tracy Truels, director of learning and engagement. "Our special exhibition, 'Our City, Our Collection,' is really about the growth and development of Oklahoma City and is a testament to the people and organizations who have transformed the Museum into what it is today."

At the Museum, families can make collages, sketch in the galleries, add their artwork to a large scale installation inspired by Oklahoma City's skyline and enjoy a host of other activities. "Best of the Fest: Kid Flix 1," the latest and greatest short films for kids ages 3 and up from the 2015 New York International Children's Film Festival, will be shown at 12:15 and 1:30 p.m. in the Samuel Roberts Noble Theater. Both adults and children will enjoy live performances from Spaghetti Eddie at 3 p.m. and the Sugar Free Allstars at 4 p.m.

"SONIC Free Family Day at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art is one of our favorite events of the year," said Christi Woodworth, vice president of public relations at SONIC. "The day offers a unique opportunity for our community to enjoy hands-on art projects, incredible works of art and live performances, all under one roof."

"Our City, Our Collection" tells the story of the Museum's history as a series of transformative gifts, bequests and acquisitions. Beginning with the Works Projects Administration's (WPA) donation of 28 works of art to Oklahoma City in 1942, "Our City, Our Collection" explores the Museum's rich permanent collection as one of the community's most important cultural assets. Included in the exhibition are some of the world's most significant artists: Georgia O'Keeffe, Rembrandt van Rijn, Gustave Courbet, Marcel Duchamp, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alexander Calder, John Singleton Copley, Andrew Wyeth, Roy Lichtenstein, Dale Chihuly and more.

Activities are appropriate for all ages, and no reservations are required. For a full schedule and more details about Family Day, visit http://www.okcmoa.com/visit/events/sonic-free-family-day/
