Oklahoma dispensaries waiting to sell

Friday October 26 was the first day for dispensaries in Oklahoma to sell medical marijuana as according to State Question 788.

However, many have decided to hold of on selling certain their products.

It wasn’t until late September that growers were told they could sell Oct.26 and many business owners feel they didn’t have enough time.

"The shortest grow time for any plant that I know of would be a 45-day Autoflower, Isaac Caviness, HempRX owner told News On 6.

Typically, growers need more time to properly prepare their marijuana before they sell it.

"So legally the stores are able to possess cannabis right now to be able to sell to cardholders, but cannabis can’t go through the growth process within those time frames,” Caviness said.

The Oklahoma Department of Health said those selling marijuana must grow it in Oklahoma.

The product doesn’t have to be tested by a third party and for that reason as well dispensaries are waiting. Testing is recommended by the Department of Health because it checks for pesticides, heavy metals and other potential dangers.

"The safety of cardholders that are coming in here and buying product needs to be number one. Beyond profits, beyond anything else, beyond any date that’s arbitrarily set out there," said Caviness.

The business owner said he won’t begin selling product until December.

"This is a new industry, so we want to do it right. We don't want to be giving law enforcement and state officials reasons they need to crack down on us in particular," Caviness said.
