February is the perfect month for lovers to do crazy things. As St. Valentine’s Day approaches, I ask my readers to indulge me as I take a page from my favorite retired late night television host Mr. David Letterman. He was the king of top ten lists and for this column, I am giving a tribute to my wonderful partner of two years.

Top 10 reasons I fell in love at 50:

10. Even though I’m a night owl - a first date at breakfast was a great first date.
9. He is a momma’s boy.
8. He is an awesome home chef/baker.
7. He seriously enjoys doing laundry.
6. He is a wonderful dad.
5. He likes to travel.
4. He loves cats.
3. He loves my family.
2. He has sparkling blue eyes that take my breath away.
1. He loves me unconditionally!

I hope that you are not vomiting from my sugary sweet column. My editor challenged me to write about the love of my life at age 52 and I just could not resist sharing my love story.

Bill and I met a little over two years ago thanks to the help of the dating app Growlr. We both have been married to women in the past and have kids. That dating app allowed two guys who lived in different states to meet and realize we are meant to be together for life. Now after two years of our monogamous partnership, we are stronger than ever.

Yes, love can happen at age 50 and older. I am living proof. If you are single and want a soul mate; consider some advice from my heart. Take chances and meet lots of people. You will have much better opportunities if you allow yourself to be open to new dating websites and apps along with being willing to kiss a few frogs on your way to finding a prince or princess.

When I started dating again at age 50, a friend advised me to “ride all of the rides at the fair” as I looked for Mr. Right. As with anything, you will have to practice dating and that is my old fashioned idea of “riding all the rides.”

Happy St. Valentine’s Day to people age 50 and older looking for love. We all deserve love and like wine…we are better with time. Cheers to senior adults who are looking and finding love.
