Time changes for Broken Heart Land screening in Norman, Tuesday June 17th

The Gayly has been contacted by one of the filmmakers to let us know the time for the Tuesday, June 17th showing at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History has been changed from 7:00pm to 6:00pm to accomadate a second showing of the film at 8:15 pm.  You must RSVP to these screenings by going to the film's website, http://www.brokenheartland.com/screenings.

The film can also be seen on June 18th at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art at 7:00pm.  This is the heart-wrenching story of a boy from Norman, OK who's conservative parents are forced to come to terms with their son's sexual orientation after his suicide.

On October 5th, 2010, gay teen Zack Harrington killed himself in his parent’s Norman, Oklahoma home. Earlier in the week, Zack attended a city council meeting in support of a proposal to recognize LGBTQ History Month in Norman. When the floor opened up for public comments, it was clear that the citizens were bitterly divided over gay rights. BROKEN HEART LAND follows the Harrington family as they find themselves in a public and private battle over their son’s legacy, and the politics of being gay in the Bible Belt.

This film will also be shown on PBS World on June 24th, but will be unavailable in Oklahoma except by online screening and live chat.  Join this dynamic presentation simulcast with the national PBS broadcast Tuesday June 24th at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

Join brother/sister filmmakers Jeremy and Randy Stulberg, and Producer Eric Juhola of BROKEN HEART LAND; Nancy and Nikki Harrington, Zack’s mother and sister; LGBT youth advocate Jordan Scruggs; and Laura McGinnis from The Trevor Project for this live screening/chat to discuss how to support and create safe spaces in our communities for LGBTQ youth.
