UCO presents classic 50’s musical theatre favorite Guys And Dolls

(Edmond, OK) The University of Central Oklahoma’s Summerstock Productions, in partnership with Broadway Tonight and the College of Fine Arts and Design, will present Guys and Dolls at Mitchell Hall Theatre, located on campus.
“Guys and Dolls is probably one of the best books and best scores of the classical musical theatre canon,” said Shannon Hurleigh, M.F.A., director and choreographer of the production and musical theatre faculty member at UCO.
Snagging a total of nine Tony Awards during its Broadway tenure, including the 1950 Tony Award for Best Musical, Guys and Dolls follows the comedic plot of gamblers Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson who decide to make a bet on love.
The production was also adapted into a film in 1955 starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Vivian Blaine.
“In addition to having some of the best music, Guys and Dolls is loved because it has a little bit of everything for everyone,” explained Hurleigh.
“It features a Godly woman in search of an exciting life, the bad boy with a heart of gold, several brilliantly comedic characters, gamblers and showgirls to boot.”
For this production, Summerstock will feature both Central’s top current musical theatre students and successful UCO musical theatre alumni.
Current students Nate Stukey, Emily Pace and Bailey Maxwell will perform the roles of Sky Masterson, Sarah Brown and Miss Adelaide while notable alumni include Sooner Theatre’s ‘Catch Me If You Can’ leading man Michael Stewart and well-known local comedic actor Justin Larman.
“All these performers have really brought these classic characters to life in an incredible way,” Hurleigh concluded.
Performances will be held June 19-21 and June 26-28 at Mitchell Hall Theatre, located on campus. Friday and Saturday night performances will be at 7:30pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoon performances will be at 2pm.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.mitchellhalltheatre.com or by calling the Mitchell Hall Box Office at (405) 974-3375.
