Out lesbian comedian Wanda Sykes will be on screen at this year’s deadCENTER film festival. Sykes has teamed up with Brooke Shields, Daryl Hannah, Virginia Madsen and Camryn Manheim in the hilarious comedy The Hot Flashes.

The film is about a group of middle-aged women that form a basketball team and challenge the current high school girls’ state champs in an effort to raise money for breast cancer prevention. Sparks fly as the women go to extremes on and off the court to raise money for a mobile mammogram unit and awareness about breast cancer in their small town.

The film will be part of the 2013 deadCENTER Film Festival, June 5-9 in downtown Oklahoma City. For a full schedule and information about how to buy passes, please visit www.deadcenterfilm.org.

From hilarious comedies and insightful documentaries to scary horror films and intense dramas, deadCENTER selects a broad slate of films each year to cater to our surprisingly diverse audience.

Their mission is to promote, encourage and celebrate the independent film arts. They accomplish their mission with a renowned festival each June, a year round education program and screenings throughout the year in partnerships with museums and various arts organizations.

The festival is run by working filmmakers. Therefore, the festival is designed to cater to the needs and wants of all types of filmmakers, from first time student short directors to established veterans like Spike Jonze, who opened our festival in 2010, or Nick Cassavetes, who served as judge for our 2011 festival.
