The body of 26-year-old transgender woman, Brandi Seals, was discovered Wednesday, December 13th, morning in Houston. She was found at a home construction site in the Sunnyside neighborhood in the Southeastern part of the city, TransGriot reports.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, but authorities have offered few other details. So far, there are no suspects.

Her murder is at least the 26th trans murder of 2017; Human Rights Campaign lists it as the 28th. This report tells us 2017 has been the deadliest year on record for transgender persons in America, beating 2016’s heartbreaking 26 murders. Most victims, like Seals, have been trans women of color.

Seals’ aunt, Maria Cheeks, described her as “a loving person” and “a beautiful person,” according to The Advocate.

“Whoever took [her] life, they have to answer,” Cheeks added. “Maybe the police might not get you, but you will have to answer to one person. And that’s the higher power of God. You will have to answer to him.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-8477.
