Brightmusic: Shanties, Songs and Serenades

Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble features six musicians at two January concerts.

On January 20-21, Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present two performances of Shanties, Songs and Serenades. The program features three works exclusively for wind instruments and two works for winds and piano.   

The works on the program are: (1) Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties for Wind Quintet, op. 4 (for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (2) David Maslanka’s Wind Quintet No. 4 (also for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (3) György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet (also for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn); (4) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds in E-flat Major, K.452 (for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn and piano); and (5) Jean Françaix’s L’Heure du berger (for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and piano).     

Six musicians will appear at this concert: Parthena Owens (flute), Lisa Harvey-Reed (oboe), Chad Burrow (clarinet), Carl Rath (bassoon), Kate Pritchett (horn) and guest pianist Alex McDonald (piano).   

The Monday, January 20th performance will be at All Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Oklahoma City at 7:30pm; the Tuesday, January 21st performance will be at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street in downtown Oklahoma City, also at 7:30pm.
