Dominican cardinal calls gay US official a 'wife' in spat

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (AP) — A Dominican cardinal is upset over comments that an openly gay U.S. ambassador made about corruption in his country and says the diplomat should focus on homemaking.
Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez made the comments to reporters late Tuesday following a Mass. He also accused ambassador James "Wally" Brewster of promoting a gay rights agenda on Dominican soil.
In the cardinal's words: "Let him focus on housework, since he's the wife to a man."
Lopez spoke about a week after Brewster criticized corruption in the country.
Brewster did not immediately return a message asking for comment.
