Mid-spring snowstorm hits northern Arkansas

by Ken Townsend

(Eureka Springs, AR) - Northwestern Arkansas residents awakened this morning to a rare mid-spring snowstorm that started in the early morning.  From a high of 64 degrees Thursday overnight temperatures dropped to near freezing with 20-25 mph winds and dumped over 2 inches of snow in some places.

Eureka resident Josiah Hinton works the front desk at the Land O’ Nod Inn in Eureka Springs and spoke with The Gayly, “We may have some snow in early March, very seldom in April, but this is late, never. It was 83 degrees Tuesday and I got sunburn working in my garden,” stated Hinton.

The snow was a result of a historic wide spread winter storm that spread across the plains starting Wednesday afternoon.
