Emerging artist Orchard Mason announces the release of their latest single, Throw A Brick – A Pride Anthem, a defiant and soulful anthem dedicated to the ongoing struggle for civil rights and the universal right to love.
Mason has lived in Tulsa, OK, for the past 28 years and calls Tulsa home. They have been writing music for “quite some time,” and until now, had just been posting songs on Facebook for friends and family to enjoy.
Drawing inspiration from the historic “first brick” of the Stonewall Uprising, the new track serves as both a reflection on past sacrifices and a modern rallying cry. With lyrics like, “Sometimes you need to throw a brick to let your voice be heard,” the song moves beyond simple melody to offer a raw, rhythmic exploration of resilience.
“I was stopped at our local [Oklahomans for Equality] Equality Gala in 2025. Porsche Lynn, a local Drag Queen, asked me if I could write her a song for Tulsa Pride with the words “Sometimes You Need To Throw A Brick.”

Mason said they thought it was beyond their writing skills, but they went home that night after the gala and started writing the song.
“By the next morning, I sent her a draft, and she had tears in her eyes.”
It’s not the artist’s first single.
“I knew after a wrote Throw A Brick that other queens might want to perform it,” Mason said. “I have since gotten it into the hands of some the girls that actually perform at The Stonewall Inn, and they love it. I think by June of this year we will see more performances of this song. Anyways, this song was the song that made me start taking my songwriting more seriously so I wanted to create a name that was brandable, unisex, and unique.”
The song was performed at Tulsa Pride 2025 (please see the video link below). Mason said the energy and reaction from the crowd were more than they could have ever imagined.
“The song is about the Stonewall Riots but also a call for equality,” Mason told The Gayly. “It reminds us that equality will also have to be fought for, and we have to use our voice. The brick is just a metaphor for our voice, and it’s the moment your voice becomes impossible to ignore.”
Mason said they used AI for the vocals because they needed a female vocalist and wanted it to sound like an older woman singing, as in the line “a product of history.”
“But the song was 100 percent written by me,” Mason said. “I play acoustic guitar, and almost all songs are written on my guitar.”
The artist said the song is for anyone who has ever felt silenced.
“It’s a reminder that our voices are our most powerful tools, and sometimes, standing up for equality requires a bold, disruptive spirit.”
Produced by Orchard Mason, the track blends indie-rock and haunting modern folk with a cinematic “call and response” structure designed to unite listeners in a shared “stand.” Since the release of this song, Mason has decided to create Orchard Mason and release additional songs as a full album to be released on April 17.
Throw A Brick – A Pride Anthem is now available on all major streaming platforms.
