Brightmusic begins “From Vienna to Tin Pan Alley”
Chamber music in OKC; Season begins September 22
Brightmusic chamber ensemble begins its 2026-27 season with a concert spanning centuries and continents Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in midtown OKC. The program will include works by Austrian composer Franz Schubert (19th century) and American composer George Gershwin, who incorporated jazz and popular music into his classical pieces. This concert will begin with another Young Artist Spotlight of two young pianists studying with Song Piano Studio in OKC.

- Paul Hindemith, Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 11
- George Gershwin/Jascha Heifetz, Summertime and It Ain’t Necessarily So
- Franz Schubert, Trout Quintet
Musicians: Katrin Stamatis (violin), Samuel Formicola (violin and viola), Jonathan Ruck (cello), Anthony Stoops (double bass), and Amy I-Lin Cheng (piano).
Upcoming Season:
All regular-season Brightmusic concerts are held on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in OKC.
Concert 2. Tuesday, November 10, 2026: “From Café to Concert Hall” - Guest violinist Yoojin Jang returns to perform works by Beethoven, Paul Schoenfield, and Dvořák.
Concert 3. Tuesday, January 12, 2027: “Triptych for Clarinet, Cello, and Piano” - Guest pianist Steven Beck joins the ensemble for a concert featuring clarinet, cello, and piano from composers such as Nino Rota and Astor Piazzolla.
Concert 4. Tuesday, March 2, 2027: “Echos from the Valley: Shepherds, Soft Rains, and Butterflies” - Guest soprano Emily Truckenbrod and Brightmusic perform lieder (“songs”) from Schubert and other composers, including OCU professor Edward Knight.
Concert 5. Tuesday, April 20, 2027: “Gone with the Winds” - Guest pianist John Solari and the ensemble close the regular season featuring wind instruments, including a world premiere of John Byers’ “Last Court” for wind quintet.
Brightmusic’s four-concert Summer Chamber Music Festival will be presented in June. The program will be announced later in the season.

First Baptist Church is located at 1201 N Robinson Ave. Free parking is available north and southwest of the building. Handicap Access is available through the door under the awning on the south side of the building. The elevator is just inside around the corner to the left. Go up one level to the Sanctuary.
