America’s Bearded Queen Pageant

At the legendary Rose Room in Dallas, TX
America’s Bearded Queen – a national drag pageant for the Beautiful Bearded Entertainers – is celebrating our 6th year on November 10 and 11 in the Legendary Rose Room, inside S4 in Dallas, TX.
Bearded drag queens challenge traditional gender presentation by combining hyper-feminine or campy costumes with facial hair, pushing the boundaries of conventional drag.

Beginning with the first, “we call her our Inaugural,” titleholder (2021), Starlet Skye, originally from London, UK, currently living in Orlando, Florida, will be joining her predecessor, Sasha V. King (2022), from Dallas, Texas, as well as Natalia Masters (2023), from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Sarah Tonin Katz (2024), from Shreveport, Louisiana. They will come together to celebrate the reign of our current titleholder (2025), Paris Starz from Evansville, Indiana.
While modern bearded drag is a contemporary queer art movement, historical figures wore facial hair alongside royal or theatrical power long before modern drag.
Ancient Royals: Egyptian Pharaoh Queen Hatshepsut wore a ceremonial false beard to signal her authority and divine right to rule.

Sideshows and Theater: Historical performers like Helena Antonia in the 1500s and later sideshow performers challenged expectations of female smoothness and anatomy.
This year, the America’s Bearded Queen organization will be celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the crowning of the Inaugural America’s Bearded Queen – Starlet Skye. Dallas, Texas, will be the place to see over 20 amazing contestants from across the United States competing to be the 6th America’s Bearded Queen (2026). Some have competed in past America’s Bearded Queen pageants, while others are competing for the first time.
David Bridgman created America’s Bearded Queen during the pandemic. As soon as the country reopened, he held the first pageant in the Rose Room in Dallas, featuring only four contestants from Texas to Florida.
Since then, it has grown into the largest and now the only preliminary-based pageant specifically for Beautiful Bearded Entertainers across the country, giving the bearded drag community a place to be themselves while still being a part of the drag community as a whole.

Modern bearded drag emerged as performers sought to reject strict Eurocentric beauty standards that demanded hairlessness and a narrow definition of femininity.
Competitions: Platforms outside the mainstream, such as Dragula featuring artists like Ursula Major, helped bring bearded and alternative aesthetics to wider audiences
Pageantry and Television: Performers like Kay Kay Lavelle broke pageant barriers by competing in major systems in 2018, while international franchises like Drag Race Holland featured bearded queens like Madame Madness.
Global Recognition: The global profile of bearded drag skyrocketed when Conchita Wurst won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014.

As drag has moved from underground clubs into multi-million dollar media empires, mainstream platforms faced a critical choice: maintain a rigid, digestible definition of “female impersonation” or evolve to reflect the community’s true diversity.
Over the years, major television networks, streaming services, and international competitions have transformed their structures to embrace subversive aesthetics like bearded drag.
