Jury ready to deliberate in gay conversion therapy case

Jersey City, N.J. (AP) — A jury in Jersey City is set to begin deliberating the case of a nonprofit that offers so-called "gay conversion" therapy.

Four young men sued the group in 2012 under New Jersey's consumer fraud laws. They claim the group Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing made false promises that it could turn gay men straight.

Jurors heard closing arguments Wednesday and were to receive instructions from the judge before beginning deliberations.

Earlier Wednesday, a lawyer representing the group called the plaintiffs "flat-out liars" and said all of them spoke positively about their therapy at the time but changed their stories later to fit the needs of gay activists.

An attorney for the plaintiffs told jurors the group lied about its success rate and used methods that had no scientific basis.
