Gayly staff report

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Devon Energy will present Cirque de la Symphonie May 3 and 4. Big Top meets Orchestra in this dazzling production because when the music soars - so do the performers! Elegant, energetic and technically precise, the aerialists and acrobats join the Philharmonic for an evening of breathtaking delights.

Cirque de la Symphonie is a new production formed to bring the magic of cirque to the music hall. It is an exciting adaptation of artistic performances widely seen in theaters and arenas everywhere. Artists include the most amazing veterans of exceptional cirque programs throughout the world—aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen.

Each artist's performance is professionally choreographed to classical masterpieces and popular contemporary music in collaboration with the maestro.

Review Vancouversaid “This wasn't your usual performance. Instead, Cirque de la Symphonie has developed truly amazing choreography and acrobat feats performed in perfect timing to such popular classical tunes such as Ravel's Bolero, Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and Khachaturian's Masquerade: Valse.

“On stage we were watching the very best—be they musicians or members of Cirque. As aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, jugglers, balancers, and strongmen captivated the audience, it was obvious that the natural combination of these two arts forms provided new dimensions that only enhanced one another. At times the Symphony Orchestra held centre stage. At other times, they took a back seat. But neither would have felt quite right tonight without the other.”

The combined concert and performance launches Friday May 3 at 8:00pm in Oklahoma City’s Civic Center Music Hall, with a second performance Saturday May 4. Tickets are on sale now at the OKC Phil ticket office, 438 W. California, at the Civic Center box office, and online at www.okcphilharmonic.org.
