Today is the day! PFLAG Norman will host "Fighting for Marriage Equality: The Oklahoma Case" at 7pm in the Bell Courtroom of the OU Law Center. The four plaintiffs and three attorneys from the Oklahoma court case will speak about their experiences and the issues involved in the legal case that challenged Oklahoma's DOMA law, passed in 2004.

It took over nine years for a ruling on the suit filed in November 2004 by Mary Bishop, Sharon Baldwin, Sue Barton, and Gay Phillips to overturn DOMA. Judge Terence Kern ruled in their favor in January 2014. The state of Oklahoma appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in April and attorneys Don Holladay, James Warner, and Joseph Thai pled the case for the defendants, with another favorable ruling coming in July.

Bishop v. Oklahoma has now been appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States, with the defendants and attorneys waiting to hear if the case will be heard. History is being made and we're there!

Please join PFLAG Norman today (Friday, October 3), to hear about the fight for marriage equality in Oklahoma from the people who are living it.

The program is free and open to the public. The Bell Courtroom is located at the east end of the OU Law Center, near the corner of Timberdell and Asp. Seating is first come, first serve.
