Respect Diversity Foundation holds an annual Arts Competition & Exhibition. Students, parents, teachers and administrators from schools from around the state attend. Photo provided.

OKLAHOMA CITY—For twelve years, young people throughout Oklahoma have celebrated diversity in creative ways as they explore issues of cultural diversity, human rights, and global peace through the arts. Then they enter their art integration project in the Respect Diversity Arts Competition & Exhibition.

One of the displays in this year’s exhibit, Appreciating Global Diversity by Showing Kindness, is a quilt made by the first graders at Telstar Elementary. Information about the impetus behind this work of art and all entries for the state wide Respect Diversity Arts Exhibition will be shared at www.respectdiversity.org.

Teachers throughout Oklahoma who register to attend the exhibit’s awards ceremony will receive Multicultural Professional Development Points.

The awards ceremony for this exhibit, on Tuesday, April 9, begins at 5:00 p.m. at Harding Fine Arts Academy.  Lyn Adams, Director of the OKC Children’s Theatre and Jean Hendrickson, Executive Director of Oklahoma A+ Schools, will present awards to winning schools.  Musicians from Nichols Hills Elementary School Varsity Choir, Orvis Risner Elementary School Choir and Harding Fine Arts Academy Ensemble will perform.
