Trans teacher booted from classroom after parents complain

A fifth-grade teacher, Chloe Bressack, was transferred from their classroom after parents objected to their desire to be addressed with they, them, their pronouns and the prefix Mx. (gender neutral pronouns).

While some parents at Canopy Oaks Elementary school in Florida had no objection to this decision, other parents sent in complaints and some pulled their children out of the classroom.

Bressack was soon transferred to an adult classroom after a “mutual” decision was made.

“Given the complexity of the issue, we both agreed a different environment would be best for Teacher Bressack’s educational career and for the young students at Canopy Oaks,” said Rocky Hanna, the superintendent.

Bressack has yet to provide a comment on the situation, but they did speak out at a protest in support of transgender rights last February.

"I had people look me in the eye and tell me that I am selfish for being a teacher, selfish for putting myself in a position where I am around children and exposing them to the transgender lifestyle, whatever that is," Bressack told the Famuan, a student publication of Florida A&M University. "I will not be spending my entire life pretending to be someone that I am not."
