Black vs Black: Freedom from Bigotry

A poem by Gayly columnist Mahkesha Hogg.

Black vs Black: Freedom from Bigotry

You cannot escape the black that is on your skin.

Just like they cannot escape the gay that is within.

Why do you discriminate against the LGBT?

When you know the pain that bigotry can leave.

Your words can shame, your stares can cut.

Do you think that you are better because you’re straight?

Or do you consider that luck?

Black and Gay is still black indeed.

Black and Proud can mean so many things.

From skin color to sexual expression, freedom still rings!

Your brothers and sisters need to hear you say that the type of “proud”

they have is still the same.

You must be your brother’s keeper.

If you are not on their side, you spread the fever.

Hate is horrible in every way.

But when the hate is from your own…you take their PRIDE away!

Your homophobia against them is Black vs. Black.

You should stand together as one to fight back.

Civil Rights is Human Rights, there is NO difference.

So be kind to one another and bridge the distance.
