The Wichita Park Commission voted to permanently remove the Confederate flag (the battle flag of the army of northern Virginia) that has been part of the American flag display in the Wichita War Memorial Park near the main downtown post office since 1976. The flag was temporarily removed by the city commission in July of this year and will not be returned to the park.

During a packed and contentious meeting the park commission suggested that the flag of the state of Kansas take its place. It's a beautiful day in Wichita, Kansas and may the Free-State flag fly proudly into the future.
