Kansas: Stop the Bathroom Bills! Rally for Equality!

Kansas calls for equality. Photo provided.

Join Equality Kansas and friends on Friday, April 29, 2016 beginning at noon at the Kansas State Capitol. We'll be rallying on the statehouse south steps, and hearing from lawmakers who will stand with us for fairness and equality.

Our goal: Stop Kansas House Bill 2737, the bill that will put a $2500 bounty on the head of every trans and non-conforming student in our public schools.

After the rally, we will have information you can drop off in the offices of your senators and representatives. If you'd like to meet face-to-face with your legislators, please write us at info@eqks.org, and we will work with you on getting a meeting scheduled.

Bring your flags, your banners, and your signs! Just remember, though, that those are allowed outdoors at the rally. Statehouse policy prohibits signs and banners being carried inside.

ARRIVING AT THE CAPITOL:

The Kansas State Capitol is at 300 SW 10th St, Topeka, KS.

The public entrance is at the intersection of SW 8th and SW Van Buren in Topeka, KS [http://goo.gl/maps/X987F], on the north side of the Capitol building. Be prepared for airport-style security. All visitors must pass through a security checkpoint, and all bags are screened through an x-ray machine.

Parking can be difficult. For a good spot, plan to arrive in Topeka early.

-There is metered parking around the Capitol. The meters cost $1 per hour, accept quarters, and are limited from 1 hour to 10 hours depending on where you are parked. Overtime parking tickets are $8 for the first ticket, with fines increasing if you`ve had Topeka parking tickets in the past.

-There is additional parking in per-hour parking garages on 8th near Kansas Street [http://goo.gl/maps/2dbUj] and 9th near Kansas Street [http://goo.gl/maps/ZdK5A], within easy walking distance of the capitol.

-There is a two-hour parking lot southwest of the capitol at SW 10th and Topeka Blvd [http://goo.gl/maps/NQtzB]. If you plan to attend the rally only, this parking lot will be a good option for you.
